News & Events
The research group "Social Contexts of Rebellion in the Early Islamic Period" (SCORE) is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of the Emmy Noether scheme and will run for six years (2020-2026). For more information about the project, its objectives, and its research methods, see the section "About SCORE".
Under the headline "SCORE News", you find the most current news about the project and the team members' activities. Moreover, the SCORE team also has a Twitter account (@rebellionUHH): there you also find announcements for the SCORE events and publications as well as some preliminary insights into our research, e.g., in our regular thread #RebelReads.
During the course of the project, at least two major international SCORE conferences will take place. All information on these conferences can be found in the "SCORE Conferences" section. The first conference already took place in September 2022 at the University of Hamburg. The publication of the conference proceedings is planned for the end of 2023 and will be published by Edinburgh University Press.
Finally, SCORE has been organising a recurring lecture series since the summer semester of 2022 under the title "Rethinking Social Contention: Rebellion, Banditry and Martyrdom in the Pre-Modern Islamicate World". The lectures in this series take place online and are open to everyone. The lecturers deal with different aspects of the phenomenon of rebellion within and outside the early Islamic world. For more information, please navigate to "SCORE Lecture Series".
