Subject-specific provisions (academic regulations)
The subject-specific provisions (FSBs) contain information about the structure of the degree program, such as curricular areas, the order in which modules are to be taken (module plan), information about the different types of courses, module deadlines, part-time study, semester abroad, the bachelor’s thesis, and calculating grades.
In the section “module descriptions” you will find information on the exact requirements for each module, such as the length and structure of the module, prerequisites for participation, the language of the module, and the type of examination.
The entry into force is listed at the end of the document under Section 23 Entry into force (or Section 2 in amendments) or “applies to students beginning their studies from Winter Semester 2011/12.” The most recently adopted subject-specific provisions usually apply to multiple student intakes/cohorts, until such point that an amendment or new version is released which applies to subsequent cohorts. Amendments to subject-specific provisions must be read in conjunction with the previously valid version or amended version, as an amended version contains only those paragraphs and sections that have changed, or replaces an individual module with another.
The subject-specific provisions must always be read in conjunction with the General Examination Regulation for the Humanities (academic regulations). It sets forth the general regulations that apply not only to a specific degree program, but to all bachelor degree programs in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Hamburg. Also check the validity of the General Examination Regulation.
If you are attending classes in another department or even another faculty for part of your studies (as major or minor subject), make sure to familiarize yourself with the requirements there as well.

Magister
Dear Prospective Students,
the AAI is introducing a bachelor’s and master’s degree program from Winter Semester 2007/08. That means it is no longer possible to begin studies in a Magister program. Students already registered in the Magister program may continue their studies under the previous conditions.
The overview for every degree program (component) shows the semester in which the program will be offered for the last time. After the semester specified in the list, there is no longer any guarantee that the courses required for the curriculum will be offered. This does not rule out the possibility that, in individual cases, equivalent courses from the bachelor’s or master’s degree programs may still be taken. The right to take the final exams is not affected by the set deadlines!
