The SCORE research group is delighted to announce a forthcoming collaborative research project with colleagues at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. The project, entitled 'Loyalty Oaths in the Roman, Byzantine and Early Islamicate Legal Spheres' (LORILS), will entail collaborative interdisciplinary research over the course of a one-year period, commencing later in 2023. Legal specialists from Groningen will be joined by Islamicists from Hamburg and friends and colleagues from other universities to form the project team. The project will include two in-person workshops and culminate in a co-authored article, published in Open Access, that will consider loyalty oaths in a holistic late antique and early medieval context, ranging across the Middle East and Europe. The award comes after a successful application to a joint funding scheme by Daphne Penna, Assistant Professor in Byzantine Law at Groningen, and Alasdair Grant, postdoc Research Associate in the SCORE project. If you would like to find out more, or if you would be interested in getting involved, please contact Alasdair at alasdair.grant@uni-hamburg.de.
