Two of our group members, Alon Dar and Hannah-Lena Hagemann, gave a joint paper at the conference on ‘Expectations of Justice and Political Power in the Islamicate World (ca. 600-1500 CE)’ organised by the Embedding Conquest team at Leiden. Their paper, entitled “‘The World Will Not Forgive Their Misdeeds’: Rebellion as Response to Injustice”, dealt with the close connection between (in)justice and revolt both in the rhetoric of rebellion and as a historical trigger for social unrest.
