BeInf Research trip to Egypt with conference participation

At the end of February through the beginning of March, several BeInf team members will conduct a research trip in Egypt. This includes Sophia Dege-Müller and Aaron Butts as well as future team member Martina Ambu. The BeInf team plans to visit sites in the Wadi n-Natrun, including Deir es-Surian (The Monastery of the Syrians), as well as the Monastery of St. Antony in the Eastern Desert. While in Egypt, they will also take part in the IIème Colloque sur les études éthiopiennes (26-27 February 2024, Cairo). Sophia Dege-Müller will give a talk “Heads will roll — the relic of the head of Mark the Evangelist in Ethiopia”, Martina Ambu a talk “Female pilgrims and nuns in the Ethiopian diasporic network (14th – 16th centuries): some documents for a preliminary study”, and Aaron Butts a talk "Egypt as a Potential Meeting Point for Ethiopic and Syriac Christians: Some Preliminary Thoughts".
