EPEL Vortrag 31.5.: A Little Bit of Literature in Urban Space - Gwanghwamun Poetry Placard
24. Mai 2018, von AAI Webmaster
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maria V. Soldatova from Moscow State Linguistic University will hold a lecture on "A Little Bit of Literature in Urban Space: Gwanghwamun Poetry Placard" on May 31st 2018, 18:00, at Asien-Afrika-Institut, room 123.
Literature in general and poetry in particular play a key role in the preservation and transmission of cultural code, unifying the nation. This potential of literature is used in various projects including socially oriented advertising. A very interesting example of such advertising is Gwanghwamun Poetry Placard on the Kyobo Life Building in Seoul, Republic of Korea. This Placard, leading its history since 1991, was originally designed to enhance the company’s image, but soon acquired a social significance on a national scale. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Soldatova will analyze a certain number of poetic stanzas from the Placard which are remarkable in terms of implicit content, thus trying to contribute to better understanding of the cultural code of the society the project is oriented toward.
This lecture is part of the EPEL lecture series, supported by the Korea Foundation.
