Ayşegül Argit is a lecturer for Modern and Ottoman Turkish at the Department of History and Culture of the Middle East at the AAI since April 2026.

She studied English-Speaking Cultures and History (BA, University of Bremen) and Global History (MA, Heidelberg University). In 2011–12, she completed a Traineeship at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). Her doctoral thesis, “Press, Politics and Mobilisation in Istanbul 1908–14”, examines the political and social function of communication structures in Istanbul during the second constitutional period of the Ottoman Empire. As part of her doctoral studies at Heidelberg University, she graduated from the Heidelberg Graduate School for Humanities and Social Sciences (HGGS) and received scholarships from the Orient-Institute Istanbul (OII), the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes e.V.) and the Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG) in Mainz. In 2015–16 and 2017–18, she worked as a research assistant at Heidelberg University Library. She was a lecturer at Heidelberg University in 2015-16 (Department of History) and in 2018-22 (SSKVO). From 2018 to 2023 she was an administrative assistant at Goethe University Frankfurt and an administrative officer in the Human Resources Department of the Bremen Senate Chancellery at the Bremen State Representation in Berlin from 2023 to 2026.
