Dr. Achim Rohde is an Islamic scholar and Middle East historian. After studying in Hamburg, Birzeit, and Tel Aviv and earning his doctorate at Freie Universität Berlin, Rohde worked as a researcher and science manager in various disciplinary contexts, including at the Georg Eckert Institute. Leibniz Institute for Educational Media, Philipps University Marburg, Goethe University Frankfurt a.M., TU Berlin and FU Berlin. His research on the Middle East and North Africa in the 20th/21st centuries moves along social and cultural historical lines. He has also worked on the history of German Oriental Studies. Rohde’s current book project scrutinizes social transformations in post-revolutionary Tunisia through the prism of minorities. Rohde is a member of the international research network "Reimagining Jewish Life in the Modern Middle East: 1800 - Present" based at Penn State University. He heads the department of memorial development at the Lower Saxony Memorials Foundation.
