Der Fachbereich Austronesistik freut sich, die Veröffentlichung der Kurzgeschichtensammlung "Sebab engkau pasir dan akan kembali menjadi pasir" ("As All are of Sand and All will return to Sand") anzukündigen.
We proudly present the book entitled Sebab engkau pasir dan akan kembali menjadi pasir (‘As All are of Sand and All will return to Sand’) which was compiled in a BA course Creative Indonesian Writing supervised by Mrs Ramayda Akmal and Mrs Yanti Mirdayanti at the Department of Southeast Asian Languages and Cultures, University of Hamburg, during the Spring Term of 2020. The core of the book is formed by the first six short stories written and edited by German students in the sixth semester of their studies in Indonesian language and literature at the Department. Inspired by the efforts and results of these students, Ramayda asked a few other MA and PhD students at the Department to contribute a short story to the anthology as well, after which also the supervisers of the class and a colleague from Surabaya chipped in. The result of this is an anthology containing fourteen short stories which are not only interesting because they were writte in the course, but also because they revolve around quite serious issues, such as loss and the final farewell. This is also the reason that the title of Leon Woltermann’s story was taken as overall title. Ms E. Hellen Kustanti, a graphic designer from Indonesia who has settled in Germany, has nicely illustrated the stories which makes the book very attractive to look at as well.
The Hamburger Gesellschaft für Austronesistik (Hamburg Society for Austronesian Studies, HGA) financially supported this edition as it stimulates the study of Austronesian languages and cultures in general and Indonesian in particular. We hope this book will give the reader an idea about how captivating these cultures can be and inspire people to explore fascinating cultures and languages. We want to thank Mrs Ramayda and Mrs Yanti Mirdayanti for supervising the students to create these fascinating stories. We hope they can inspire others to follow suit! Happy Readings!
