Ditze Foundation that has also sponsored various research projects in the humanities areas of the University of Hamburg since 1990.
In this grant, Rangga was nominated by Prof. Dr. Jan van der Putten, as his supervisor, on his proposed research thesis titled "Imagined Ummah: Memory and the Mobilization of Islamic Populist Narratives in Indonesia 2016-2019". The thesis will delve into the construction of the meaning of "Ummah" (Arabic: religious community) in the Islamic-populist movement which spread in Indonesia between 2016 and 2019. He examines the genesis of “ummah” consciousness through an emic perspective (Indonesian Muslim) on sociocultural expressions and ground-level processes.
