Hier gibt es einen Einblick in zwei weitere neue Kurse im Sommersemester 2022.
Living Islam in Southeast Asia
Southeast Asia is home of the largest Muslim population in the world. But what does it mean to be Muslim in Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia?
The seminar explores the ways Muslims live Islam in their everyday life in those three countries.
- What do they read and write?
- What are their sources of inspiration?
- What are the taboos and sources of friction among communities?
The seminar proposes a survey of literary texts, religious celebrations, culinary habits and performing arts, and invites to think critically about Islam considered as a world and as a localized religion in Southeast Asia.
Dominations, rebels, and revolutions in insular Southeast Asia
Colonialism and nationalism have shaped our world, but in which ways?
What is the long-term impact Southeast Asia, on governance, national identity, economic growth, expression of violence, and social justice?
The seminar will focus on the role of local and national movements in the contestation of the established order, and discuss keys studies from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. The emphasis will be on independence and post-independence movements in present-day Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
While we will start from portraits of leaders, the seminar also deal with groups of anonyms who created change.
