We kindly invite you to attend this event on November 26, 2022, 14:00 to 19:00 PM in room 221, ESA O (Edmund-Siemers-Allee 1).
The Department of Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Hamburg - supported by the embassy of the Philippines in Berlin - is expanding its expertise in Austronesian studies by offering new classes and seminars on the Philippines. Austronesian studies propose a unique way to look at cross levels of analysis, using local, trans-regional, or -national focuses. Our objectives are both scientific, as we believe such crossed perspectives can only generate fruitful perspectives of research, and pedagogic, to create a stronger and unique program relevant to the life experience of many.
This launch event will present the new offer of the curriculum created through an integrated program in Austronesian studies where Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines are studied from the perspective of their shared history, and cultural features but also exceptionality. The Filipino diaspora - which forms an exceptionality - is an important component of the program. We will discuss its history, current dynamics, creativity, and role in Germany - and Europe - together with Chelsea Amada, a Filipina-Austrian artist, and Jooniverse, a visual artist, who will present their research and visual work on the first generation of Filipina nurses in Austria.
We invite you to join us in that event, and participate in the discussion which will be followed by a Filipino buffet. For more information, please refer to the event leaflet (PDF). To attend the event, we kindly ask for your registration.
