Welcome!
In the Department of Languages and Cultures of Southeast Asia we research and teach about the great diversity of this large and varied emergent region full of rich traditions. The region comprises the ASEAN countries, with specific focus on Thailand/Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia/Malaysia, and the Philippines. Courses include those teaching the languages of the region (Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese, etc.) as well as a variety of offers on culture and society, history, and literature.
The BA, MA and PhD degrees provide qualifications for positions in business, non-governmental organizations and public services, and academia.
Most of our language courses and even most of our other courses are open throughout the university to students of various disciplines. For all language courses above our beginner courses, which require no prior knowledge, participants must of course demonstrate a sufficient mastery of the respective language like it is taught in the courses before. If you're interested in any of our courses, please contact the respective teacher or our student advisory service who will all be glad to help you!
