Topic:
Every five years the Republic of Indonesia holds its General Elections (Pemilihan Umum or Pemilu). The next elections are scheduled to be held on 14 February 2024 (Wednesday). To be elected are the President, Vice President, People's Consultative Assembly MPR which consists of the DPR and the DPD, and members of local legislative bodies. It has been formally announced that 17 parties would be eligible to contest the legislative election. And so far, there are three male candidates who are vying for the top job position as the next or the 8th president of the country of nearly 280 million people. The current President Joko Widodo, or the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, won the presidential election two times (2014 and 2019) and is steaming toward the end of his term in office next year. In 1999 the Indonesian constitution was amended to prevent each president serving more than two five-year terms.
