Prof. Dr. Volker Grabowsky dedicates his research to the history and culture of the Thai peoples in mainland Southeast Asia and Southwest China. A special focus is on the manuscript cultures of the Tai peoples, which are examined within the framework of the Collaborative Research Center 950 of the DFG.
Traditional Malay texts are the subject of research of Prof. Dr. Jan van der Putten, but he also devotes himself to other forms of Malay culture. His research projects examine the meaning of traditional and popular Malay texts and address the question of how these texts are disseminated and exchanged between cultures.
Current research focus of Prof. Dr. Thomas Engelbert are the history and culture of Vietnam with a special focus on majority-minority relations, relations with neighboring countries, modern Vietnamese history and literature.
JP Dr. Elsa Clavé's research focuses on the history of the societies of Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia, in particular on the mentalities and beliefs of the people. Her focus is on the manuscript culture and the culture of remembrance in insular Southeast Asia.
