On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, we kindly invite you to this film screening in Vietnamese with English subtitles on Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, at 18:00–20:00 h (CEST/MESZ).

Dear ladies and gentlemen, dear HGV members, dear friends of the Vietnamese studies in Hamburg,

On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War (April 30, 1975), we cordially invite you to the screening of "Vượt sóng" ("Journey from the Fall") by Vietnamese-American director Ham Tran. The film depicts the fate of the South Vietnamese people after the fall of Saigon in April 1975, the human suffering, and the search for freedom in the Western world by fleeing across the vast sea.

Following the film, there will be a discussion with a contemporary witness, Mr. Nguyễn Hữu Huấn. He is a former South Vietnamese air force member who himself escaped by boat and later became a volunteer on the German refugee aid ship "Cap Anamur."
