We kindly invite you to this online lecture organised by the Hamburg Society for Thai Studies and the Department for Languages and Cultures of Southeast Asia on Friday, April 8, 2022, 14-16 CEST.
The Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) was initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great. It is a guideline for leading one’s life and behavior, which can be applied to all sectors and levels ranging from an individual or household, community, project, business, nation, to the whole world. It is a decision-making framework for taking action or solving problems in different situations based on the Buddhist principle of the middle path. Decisions and actions are carried out based on knowledge and virtue through the principle of moderation, reasonability, and risk management, which helps to strengthen one’s ability and capacity to cope with internal and external uncertainties as well as rapid economic, social, environmental, and cultural changes sustainably. SEP is also applied for sustainable agricultural land and water management, in the frame of the so-called the New Theory, which enables Thai farmers to be self-reliant and sufficient with a solid foundation.
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Anutra Wannaviroj to give a lecture on this topic. She is an independent scholar and a project director at the Chaipattana Foundation. She received a Ph.D. degree in Environment, Development, and Sustainability from Graduate School, Chulalongkorn University in 2019. Her dissertation is entitled “Selected Appropriate Decision Support Tool for Sustainable Rain-fed Agriculture Reference to the New Theory of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great: A Case Study of Khao Wong District, Kalasin Province of Thailand”. She is particularly interested in Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) and Sustainable Development.
The lecture will be held in English and can be attended via Zoom. For the link and more information, kindly refer to our Flyer (PDF).
