This language course is aimed at interested students who are curious about the culture and history of Cambodia.
No prior knowledge is required.
Since up to one-half of the vocabulary of the Thai language are loan words from Khmer, and the Thai and Khmer languages have influenced each other also with regard to grammar and syntax, the courses "Introduction into Khmer (A + B)" are highly recommended to students of Thai language.
Khmer grammar is simple. The verbs remain unchanged, whether in singular or plural. The word order in a Khmer sentence is subject-verb-object. Verbs are always in their base form.
Learning Objective: This language seminar will teach the basics of the Khmer language. Participants will learn the consonants, vowel symbols, vocabulary, sentence structure, and grammar. Through this seminar, participants can acquire an important foundation in the Khmer language and will be able to understand and use familiar, everyday expressions and very simple sentences.
