Hindi Intensive Course 2022

The courses are primarily aimed at complete beginners – students and individuals with no prior knowledge of Hindi, and the intermediate level participants – students and individuals having fundamental prior knowledge of Hindi. Our main focus is on communicative language use by applying interactive teaching methods.

Teaching Material
Along with our own teaching material, we use "Complete Hindi" by Rupert Snell and Simon Weightman (edition 2016) as main teaching material for the beginner’s course. The organizer will provide teaching material to the participants.
For the intermediate course, we mainly use our own teaching material. In addition, the following books will be used: A Basic Hindi Reader by Richard M. Harris and Rama Nath Sharma, Cornell University Press London; Intermediate Hindi by Yamuna Kachru and Rajeshwari Pandharipande, New Delhi: Motilal Banarsidass, 2003.
For the advanced course, we mainly use our own teaching material that will be distributed in the classes. Teaching material for readings tasks and analysis consists of excerpts from novels, newspapers, magazines and short stories.
Timetable
Monday to Friday 09:15-10:45; 11:00-12:30 & 13:30-15:00 (Lunch 12:30-13:30)
Place: University of Hamburg, Department of Culture and History of India and Tibet, Alster-terrasse 1 and the main building of the University, Edmund-Siemers-Allee 1, opposite Dammtor railway station. Exact details regarding timetable and hall number will be pro-vided after a successful registration.
Intermediate and advanced level participants will have to write a short grading test before joining the classes.
All participants (including beginners) and the teachers will meet for a brief introduction at 08:30 hrs. either online or in the classroom depending on the mode of the classes. A zoom link will be shared after a successful registration, if required.

Important Notes
At the end of the course, a written exam will be conducted in each course. Upon successful exam, ten credit points will be awarded in each course
We reserve the right to split the courses in A and B classes (according to the level and number of participants), if required
The decision of accepting or rejecting the application of a participant solely lies with the organizer(s).
Since more and more participants from non-German-speaking countries are showing their deep interest in our Hindi Intensive Courses, we reserve the right to hold the classes in English, if needed.
The minimum required number of participants for a course is 10 and the maximum number of participants in each class preferably shall not exceed 16 persons.
Terms of Participation
Registration
The course fees for non-students is 495 Euros and for external students and pupils the course fees is 385 Euros. The fees include the teaching material and the certificates etc. Students and pupils must submit a copy of their student’s identity card at the time of registration. The closing date for registration is 30.06.2022. Registrations done after 30th June 2022 will have to pay the increased fees by 20 percent.
Once the registration is formally accepted the course fee is to be paid in full amount within one week. The participant must ensure that the course fee is paid on time.
Please specify the sender clearly (in block letters) and transfer the registration fee to the specified bank account below only after your registration has been accepted. The completion of registration will be officially confirmed only after the course fees has been transferred or deposited to the bank account given below.

Participants who want to have the course recognized as an educational leave are kindly requested to inform us at the latest by 01.05.2022.
Cancellation
We only accept a written cancellation request.
The following rules apply for the reimbursement of the course fees:
- Cancellation before 31.05.2022: Refund minus 25.00 Euro processing charges
- Cancellation by 30.6.2022: Refund minus 20% of the course fees
- Cancellation after 30.6.2022: Not refundable

Due to restructuring measures students hostels (Studierendenwerk) have stopped accepting group reservations in the dormitories since June 2014. We would therefore request you to apply for a room in the dormitory individually at the student office:
