The Hiob Ludolf Centre for Ethiopian and Eritrean Studies is happy to welcome Professor Aaron Michael Butts.
Since today, 1 September 2022, Professor Butts, who had already been associated with the HLCEES as an Alexander von Humboldt fellow in 2020-2021 (https://www.humboldt-foundation.de/vernetzen/recherche-im-humboldt-netzwerk/einzelansicht?tx_rsmavhsolr_solrview%5BpPersonId%5D=1206727&cHash=e9fb38dadd2a1f4e9629459f6051ae7f), is Full Professor of “Semitic Studies, with focus on Ethiopian Studies" at the Faculty of Humanities at Universität Hamburg.
For the next 5 years he will be focusing on his project (ERC Consolidator Grant) “BeInf: Beyond Influence: The Connected Histories of Ethiopic and Syriac Christianity” (https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/newsroom/presse/2022/pm30.html).
The HLCEES warmly congratulates Professor Butts and looks forward to cooperation between "BeInf" and the projects in Ethiopian and Eritrean studies already running at the HLCEES.
On 20 November 2023 Jonas Karlsson speaks on "An Introduction to the Earliest Ethiopic Antiphonary Manuscripts " at the 2023 Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX.
Denis Nosntsin and Dorothea Reule speak on "Ethiopian Christian Manuscript-Making Abroad: The Ethiopic Collection of St. Catherine’s Revisited " at the International Conference "Priests and their Manuscripts in the Holy Land and Sinai"
