A Second Tai language: Introduction into Lao (A + B)
- 2 semesters (courses A and B)
- 6,0 credits per semester
- 2 SWS ("Semesterwochenstunden": hours of lessons per week) per semester
This course lasts two semesters. It starts with "Lao (A)" in the winter semester and continues with "Lao (B)" in the summer semester.
Lao (A)
Beginners of Lao (A) should have knowledge of Thai at least at an intermediate level (completion of "Thai II", see "Thai language courses").
"Lao (A)" provides an introduction into the Lao script and the basics of Lao grammar and syntax by comparing them to those of the (similar) Thai language. The course combines the reading of Lao texts from Lao text books with grammar lessons.
Lao (B)
Participation in the "Lao (B)" course requires the successful completion of "Lao (A)" or comparable language proficiency.
Texts on the culture, society, politics, and history of Laos, which Laotian secondary school students also study, will be read. Additionally, there will be an introduction to academic Laotian literature. The goal is for students to be able to independently read and translate Laotian sources and academic literature by the end of "Lao (B)".
For legally binding study regulations, please always refer to the information given by the Studienbüro (Student Services Office).
