Without doubt, Digitization and Artificial Intelligence are amongst the most cringing corporate buzzwords in current public and academic discourse. Nevertheless, we all see a dizzying pace of change in digital research methods driven by fast changing developments in the IT industry. This makes strategic planning and orientation on the personal level and for institutions difficult. Currently there are initiatives at the macro level of UHH as well as the faculty of humanities on their way to develop a „Digitalkonzept“ within the Digital Humanities.

As AAI we were part of the discussion process, however, we are convinced that AAI has a lot more to contribute and we must deal with rather specific challenges (Non-Global North cultures, languages and writing systems), which are usually sidelined in Digital Humanities and the development of digital technologies – despite a variety of projects supported by Foundations and the Akademienprogramm. We are convinced that this all justifies an AAI Digital Diversity initiative on its own, which makes the needs and pros of small subjects visible and incorporates insights from existing larger and smaller projects and initiatives with at least a digital component.
