ICES 15 Introductory remarks
The International Organizing Committee decided to convene the XVth International Conference of Ethiopian Studies in summer 2003 in Hamburg, Germany.

Thematically the Conference will focus on the humanities, with several sessions devoted to various aspects of archaeology, history, religion, languages, literature, arts, anthropology and social sciences (including law and politics).
The XVth ICES itself will take place from July 21th till July 25th 2003. The guests are advised to arrive and pre-register during the preceding Sunday (July 20, 2003). The opening ceremony will also take place on Sunday, 20.07.2003.

The Ethiopian national organizing committee responsible for applications from Ethiopia is seated at the Institute of Ethiopian Studies, Addis Ababa University.

The organizers in the course of the preparation send out three circular letters which will contain some specific information on the XVth ICES.
The first circular has been sent out on February 7, 2002. It contains the invitation to the conference with the registration form as well as some information on hotel reservation. It also announces the new research award to be granted during the conference.
The second circular will be sent in summer/autumn 2002 and contain provisional program overview, brief information on the place of the conference, evening program and possible excursions.
The third circular was prepared in early 2003 and included the conference program, travel tips and final information as to the different events during the conference.
