Seminar "Sri Burapha and the early Thai novel"
The course provides an overview of the early Thai novel of the 1930s until 1950s. The focus is on the literary work of Kulap Saipradit (1905–1974), better known under his pen name Siburapha, who is considered one of the most outstanding Thai novelists and social activists from the 1930s until the 1950s. Several of his most famous novels have already been translated into English (f.e., "Behind the Painting"), others are still waiting translation into western languages. Selected parts of three of his novels from different periods are selected for closer reading and translation in the virtual classroom.
This course aims at MA students of "Languages and Cultures of Southeast Asia" with the track Thai Studies. It is also suitable for MA students of Buddhist Studies with the track Thai Studies. It is also open for BA students as a course of the Fachspezifischer Wahlbereich.
