Seminar "Islam and Popular Culture"

This seminar examines the controversial and often very tense relationship between religion and popular culture. It surveys a number of popular culture forms that are and have been very popular in the Malay world and discusses how these forms are related to Islam. In connection to the surveys this seminar examines and discusses secondary literature to give the necessary means to questions and critically assess the relationship between religion and popular culture.
