"Favourite Southeast Asian Pastimes: Gambling, Gossip, Karaoke-singing and others"

This seminar explores the cultural premises of a division of time between leisure, serious business and hobbies, as practiced by people in the Malay world in the past and today. A central question we will address is what people consider a meaningful and important activity to devote time to, and whether or not this differs from Western Europe's idea of how to spend time in a meaningful way.
